Our mailboxes are flooded with MAGA Republican mailers full of lies. It reeks of desperation. Why canāt MAGA candidates run on their achievements, not lies and personal attacks?
The Truth:
- The Reality:Ā Kim Keiserman, candidate for NYS Assembly, has been a true friend of the Jewish community for years. She has spent her adult life focused on anti-bullying, specifically combating antisemitism and promoting understanding. At the Tannenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding and in her later career, she crafted resources to help teachers create inclusive classrooms, promote religious literacy, and combat religious bigotry and bullying.
The Lie:
- David Hassid falsely labels Kim Keiserman an antisemite. Absurdly, he blames Keiserman for statements made by candidates to whom she contributed, in his desperate attempt to slur her character. Minor campaign contributions to candidates cannot credibly be construed as an endorsement by the donor of every position that the candidates take. A review of Hassidās ācitationsā reveals that his accusations about Keiserman are WHOLLY UNSUPPORTED.
Why this Matters:
- Truth matters: David Hassid demonizes his opponent with vile accusations. This personal attack attempts to label Kim Keiserman, a lifelong advocate for equality and religious tolerance, as an antisemite. Hassid is exploiting the pain of Jews who have been victimized by hate to score political points. It demonstrates a lack of character and a lack of interest in the real issues facing Town of North Hempstead residents. The absurd accusation that any donations to a candidate immediately makes the donor responsible for every controversial remark that candidate has ever said should be called out for what it isāin this case, smokescreen antisemitism.
