Since 2021, Blakeman Promised Lower Property Taxes. Five Years Later, Residents Are Still Waiting.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s ongoing freeze on property tax assessments creates the illusion of tax relief without fixing the problem.
Though promoted as a way to limit tax increases, it forces homeowners to file grievances year after year to avoid being overtaxed.
Those who don’t have the time, knowledge or resources to challenge assessments often end up paying more than their fair share, while third party grievance companies profit.

Blakeman has been promising to fix Nassau County’s property tax assessment system since his 2021 campaign for County Executive.
If taxpayers have to grieve their assessments every year, the system isn’t working, it’s still broken.

Newsday reported in May 2026, that “Nassau has the highest property taxes of any county in the country, an average of $11,561 per household annually.”
Blakeman made the broken tax assessment system worse. Although reassessments are supposed to happen annually, Blakeman has repeatedly frozen Nassau’s inflated property assessments. This created unfair inconsistencies that force homeowners to constantly file grievances.
In 2025, successful grievance assessment reductions in Nassau rose to an 11-year high.
By keeping values frozen and maintaining a high rate of settled challenges, the County feeds a lucrative cycle for tax grievance firms who pocket up to 50% of taxpayers’ savings and make massive campaign contributions to elected officials and campaign committees.
