The Lie:
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman misrepresents his role in Nassau’s high safety rating.
Why You May Believe the Lie:
The Truth:
The “safest county” distinction is not a recent development achieved by the Blakeman administration. Nassau was named safest in 2020 and again in 2021, BEFORE Blakeman was elected, during the tenure of his predecessor, Laura Curran.
In fact, during his 2021 campaign to unseat Curran, Blakeman criticized these very rankings as “spoon-fed” and “not true,” claiming there was a “crime epidemic” under Curran. Since taking office, he reversed this stance and frequently cites the same U.S. News ranking to validate his success.
