Our mailboxes are flooded with Republican mailers full of lies. It reeks of desperation. This week, itās MAGA Jennifer DeSena whoās afraid to run on her track record, choosing instead to manufacture lies about her opponent.

The Truth:
The Reality: Sean McCarthy is a 30 year veteran of Nassau County Police and current Commissioner of Port Washington Police. He is a universally respected community leader, who also happens to be married to a Jewish woman. See Lisa McCarthy’s video repudiating these MAGA lies.
The Lie:
This MAGA mailer uses lies and innuendo in an attempt to make you believe that McCarthy is antisemitic. A review of DeSenaās ācitationsā reveals that her accusations about McCarthy are WHOLLY UNSUPPORTED.Ā Absurdly, she attributes knowledge to Mr. McCarthy about distant connections of the candidates to whom he contributed (going back to 2008), in her desperate attempt to slur his character. Moreover, minor campaign contributions made by McCarthy years ago cannot credibly be construed as an endorsement of every position that candidate took, or every person to whom the candidate might have been connected.Ā
The Facts: Sean McCarthyās campaign is focused on local solutions, specifically holding DeSena accountable for her record of mismanagementāfrom decaying parks and roads to ignoring advisors and landing taxpayers with a nearly $1 million discrimination lawsuit judgment. Instead of explaining her lack of progress and mismanagement of the Town, DeSena resorts to smokescreen antisemitism: She is using the pain of hate crimes against Jews as a weapon to wage unjustified attacks on Mr. McCarthyās character.Ā
Why this Matters:
Truth Matters: Jennifer DeSena demonizes her opponent with vile accusations. She falsely conflates Sean McCarthy with politicians in other parts of the country and tries to attribute positions to him that neither he nor those politicians ever articulated. She shamelessly tries to scare Jewish voters away based upon the most tenuous of āevidence.ā The electorate in general, and the Jewish community in particular, deserve serious discussion about ways to fight antisemitism, not politicians who baselessly accuse their opponents of antisemitism to score political points.Ā
