The Lie:
- Republicans deny cutting healthcare, they say they’re stopping waste, fraud, and abuse.
Why You May Believe the Lie:
Although President Trump said over and over and overĀ he would not cut Medicaid or Medicare, the Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) that he signed in July 2025 is resulting in a massive contraction in federal spending across all federal and state-supported health insurance programs.
Every Democrat in Congress opposed the bill, and nearly every Republican voted for the OBBBA despite the devastating impacts it will have on their constituents. ManyĀ Republicans misrepresented the impacts of the legislation, while others acknowledged the catastrophic consequences for their most vulnerable constituents, but voted for it anyway,
The Truth:
The Republicansā $1 Trillion 10-Year Wealth Swap (2025ā2034):
$1.0 trillion in combined tax cuts for the top 1%

The Details:
Medicaid Cuts: $793 billion to $840 billion via strict work rules and tighter eligibility
ACA Marketplaces: Up to $268 billion removed by cutting subsidies that lower insurance premiums.
The $1 trillion Republicans saved from reducing healthcare coverage for low- and middle-income Americans offset the $1 trillion cost of lowering taxes for billionaires.
