The Lie:
In his last race for re-election County Executive Bruce Blakeman used distortions and outright lies about his opponent. (And along the way he didn’t care that he hurt women).
Why You May Believe the Lie:
- Blakeman’s 2025 reelection campaign sent voters a steady stream of mailers falsely accusing his opponent of protecting rapists, and his television commercials amplified these false claims. The ads and mailings are graphic.
The Truth:
- Blakeman misrepresented a law school research paper written by his opponent over thirteen years ago to falsely accuse his opponent of saying that women fantasize about rape.
- The paper and the footnotes are clear that these are not his opponent’s position or his words. (See Newsday video for specifics).
- The so-called quotes were citations of others (and clearly noted as such) in the law research paper.
- Worse, Blakeman’s awkward and insensitive approach to injecting the issue of rape into the County Executive race has triggered concerns among rape victims.
Action You Can Take:
- Share this post on your social media and email and discuss it with your friends.
- Call Blakeman and tell him how disgusted you were by his lies and distortions and his insensitive use of rape victims’ pain.
- Demand honesty and integrity from him for any and all future campaigns.
Contact Blakeman at: nassaucountyny.gov/481/County-Executive, or 516-571-6000 or 516-571-3131 – prompt 5, then “other”.
