The Lie:
- Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman lies about his agreements with ICE saying they are limited to “South American gangs, crime rings, and migrants with criminal records who are wanted for crimes against residents.”
Why You May Believe the Lie:
- Blakeman also stated: “There will be no stopping of individuals, unless they are suspected of committing a crime separate and apart from their immigration status.”
- He is using County resources to implement President Trump’s mass deportation agenda.
- He allocated 50 County jail cells for ICE to hold detainees, and has allowed ICE to deputize local police officers.
The Truth:
- In May 2026, Newsday reported that less than 5% of the thousands of immigrants held in Nassau’s East Meadow jail were convicted of violent crimes.
- Tragically, in September 2025, a 42 year old man with no health issues, died after spending 18 hours in ICE custody at the Nassau jail. There has been no credible explanation of the cause of his death.
- Blakeman’s arrangement with ICE has exposed Nassau to lawsuits and raised concerns about racial profiling.
Action You Can Take:
- Share this post on your social media and email, and discuss it with your friends.
- Contact Blakeman and demand that he stop the harsh crackdown on immigrants who haven’t committed crimes.
- Since Trump takes his calls, ask Blakeman to urge Trump to fix our immigration system that has been broken for 35+ years.
- Contact Blakeman at: nassaucountyny.gov/481/County-Executive, or 516-571-6000 or 516-571-3131 – prompt 5, then “other.”
Sources:
- AS OF JAN 2026, Blakeman stated: “To combat South American gangs, crime rings, and migrants with criminal records who are wanted for crimes against residents, Blakeman has ordered the Nassau County Police Department to work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest and deport these thugs.” – https://www.blakeman2025.com/meet-bruce
