The Lie:
County Executive Bruce Blakeman promised to fix the County’s broken property tax assessment system.
Why You May Believe the Lie:
Blakeman says he kept his campaign promise – that freezing taxes is part of the process of “fixing” the system, but he has only made it worse.
The Truth:
- Without proper assessment, taxpayers are paying more than they should and are forced to grieve their taxes every year or get screwed.
- 3rd party grievance companies typically take 30%—50% of taxpayers’ refunds and make massive campaign contributions to elected officials and campaign committees.
- Successful grievance assessment reductions have risen to an 11-year high.
