The Lie:
County Executive Bruce Blakeman claims he cut taxes.
Why You May Believe the Lie:
- Even though he hasn’t cut any taxes, Blakeman has been traveling across NYS touting his fictitious tax cutting track record.
- When he ran for County Executive, Blakeman promised to immediately cut taxes by over $100 million.
The Truth:
- Blakeman has not cut any taxes.
- When questioned about his claims, Blakeman says he achieved tax relief by eliminating scheduled tax hikes planned by his predecessor. (But even that isn’t accurate, since those tax hikes required Legislative approval and were merely a backstop for a multi-year plan).
- Blakeman treats avoiding tax hikes, as if it’s the same as cutting taxes. It isn’t.
