}<\/style><\/p>\n<p><strong>County Executive Bruce Blakeman lied when he <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/26\/nassau-leader-bruce-blakeman-backs-sands-casino-bid-at-coliseum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handed over<\/a> the Coliseum site to Las Vegas Sands (LVS) <em>and claimed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sands.com\/news\/press\/las-vegas-sands-to-pursue-multi-billion-dollar-downstate-new-york-license-at-nassau-veterans-memorial-coliseum-site-on-long-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multi-billion dollar<\/a> casino development would bring benefits to Nassau.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Why You May Believe the Lie:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>In April 2023, Blakeman <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/26\/nassau-leader-bruce-blakeman-backs-sands-casino-bid-at-coliseum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> his \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-york\/syosset\/s\/int7f\/casino-deal-with-sands-expected-to-go-forward-at-nassau-hub?utm_source=alert-breakingnews&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=alert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">historic agreement<\/a>\u201d with LVS to build the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/26\/nassau-leader-bruce-blakeman-backs-sands-casino-bid-at-coliseum\/\">number one <\/a>entertainment facility in the U.S,\u201d and promised to create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wshu.org\/long-island-news\/2023-01-12\/las-vegas-sands-pursues-a-downstate-casino-license-at-old-nassau-coliseum-site\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">5,000 jobs<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>.<\/strong> He then held numerous press conferences <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/26\/nassau-leader-bruce-blakeman-backs-sands-casino-bid-at-coliseum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">promising<\/span> <\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that LVS would \u201cpump more than $100 million in revenues yearly into Nassau governments and school districts.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>As<\/strong><\/span><strong> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nassaucountyny.gov\/DocumentCenter\/View\/46753\/Sands-DEIS-Text?bidId=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negative impacts<\/a> of the proposed casino project surfaced and community opposition intensified, Blakeman doubled down on the casino, falsely <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7ny.com\/hofstra-university-las-vegas-sands-nassau-casino-bruce-blakeman\/14333951\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accusing<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> project opponents of colluding with the competition, while attempting to fast-track the project.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The Truth:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Blakeman knew that a casino was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/26\/nassau-leader-bruce-blakeman-backs-sands-casino-bid-at-coliseum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">controversial<\/a>, but despite strong objections from the community, he <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/26\/nassau-leader-bruce-blakeman-backs-sands-casino-bid-at-coliseum\/\">refused to engage <\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>key stakeholders and the public in an authentic visioning process for Nassau\u2019s most critical development site.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Instead, he entered into an irresponsible contract with LVS for a massive <a href=\"https:\/\/hempsteadny.gov\/DocumentCenter\/View\/6523\/PRESS-RELEASE-Strong-casino-opposition-at-TOH-hearing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">predatory<\/a> casino in the heart of Nassau, near colleges, which would bring significant traffic, water and air <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nassaucountyny.gov\/DocumentCenter\/View\/46753\/Sands-DEIS-Text?bidId=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">impacts<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>.\u00a0<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>In doing so, he <\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liherald.com\/stories\/sands-secures-42-year-coliseum-lease,209430\">handed 72 acres over<\/a> and importantly, the future decision-making of the coliseum site for 42 (yes, that&#8217;s 42) years to a third party from out of state that has now abandoned the project and has zero stake in the local community.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>On April 1, 2026, Legislator Scott Davis <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liherald.com\/rockvillecentre\/stories\/scott-davis-nassau-hub-revival-needs-a-community-first-approach,221342\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>called for<\/b><\/a><b> a \u2018community first\u2019 approach to replace the top down approach which has produced multiple failed proposals.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3>Action You Can
